Online Poker Tricks: Play Texas Holdem

By Mark Miller

Sometimes, a poker player needs to be a good liar. Hence, a cleverly staged trick in a particular moment can be just the right way to win pots.

The impudent player here reaches for the pot by playing high stakes, regardless of the cards. The cards in bluffing are always trivial anyway, it is all about scaring off other players. Put yourself in the position of your opponents.

And if your opponents bet, you first play along with them and strike a bit later. The other players will be confused what's going on and may even call your bet. That way you can assure a much bigger pot than if you had shown strength right from the beginning.

For instance, you lack a heart to have a flush. If you get the desired heart finally, and only now start to bet, your opponents might be taken aback and realize what strong hand you actually have. The pot would turn out rather small.

You raise, but nothing comes at the flop. And yet you continue to raise at the flop. Of course, your opponents don't know that you didn't hit anything, but because you've bet heavily before the flop, your opponents must reckon that you have a strong hand.

And mostly they're bad. Take advantage of this and just perkily raise the bet, no matter what cards you have " the small blind and the big blind will be reasonable and fold, rather then to raise with average cards, too.

Poker has always been regarded as a tense game, but anyone who played poker in the past usually meant Five Card Draw Poker. In this traditional poker game each player receives 5 cards and may exchange cards once to improve his hand.

The Semi-Bluff: A relative of the bluff is the semi-bluff. If you are in a situation where you have a realistic chance of getting something very strong, you can speculate a bit.
