How To Get Fit With A Home Treadmill

By Michelle Barder

In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle many people are turning to fitness treadmills. Older treadmills offered limited diversity in the type of jogging that an individual was able to do. However the fitness treadmills manufactured today have been designed to be complex machines that adapt to the style of the runner and create challenges that make a regimen easy to maintain.

Fitness treadmills now are made to fit any budget. They can be manufactured in a more basic design for a person who is just beginning to use this method of exercise. Or, they can be made with complex programming, features, and functions that create a well rounded and challenging training program for the user.

People who want to create a holistic program using fitness treadmills will find that there are machines available that provide a vast array of exercise options within one machine. These pieces of equipment have been designed to provide both exercise and challenge for the user.

The less expensive, motorized fitness treadmills offer many options for a user. The motors of these treadmills allow for quick paced running and are preprogrammed. If an individual wishes they can also purchase optional fitness cards that contain programmed exercises that simulate running up a mountain trail. These programs are designed to allow an individual to warm up, do heavy exercise, then cool down during the exercise period. Most of these cards are made with an exercise program lasting from twenty to thirty minutes.

The LCD consoles of fitness treadmills were originally designed to reflect the heart rate of the user. This soon included a calorie counter. Newer treadmills now offer these features as well as displays that show the level of difficulty of the program that is being used, where an individual is at in the program, and video of the terrain that is being jogged on.

The running surface of the treadmills is designed to provide comfort and foot protection throughout the exercise period. On some of the fitness treadmills it is possible to adjust the shock absorption of the running surface to different levels to match the style of the runner.

The width of the treadmill varies greatly depending on the style and design of the treadmill. Fitness treadmills which can be folded and stored most often have a narrower running surface than those that remain stationery.

The ease with which one can integrate fitness treadmills and exercise programs into their lifestyle is accomplished through this equipment. The treadmills are manufactured with the user in mind. For individual living in a small space many of the treadmills allow for folding and storage when not in use. Other treadmills are designed to be in a stationery location and used in tandem with other pieces of exercise equipment.

One of the reasons that most people did not maintain an exercise regimen using a treadmill in the past was that the exercises did not change. With today's fitness treadmills one is offered a change of scenery with each program they select and the level of challenge changes as an individual becomes more fit and wishes to change the scenery during their daily jog.
